Additional IOGear 4-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Cables GCS1764 Information

The IOGEAR DVI KVMP Switch GCS1764 charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by providing an interface for todays digital monitors while integrating a 4-port USB KVM switch with USB peripheral sharing capabilities. As a KVM switch, the unit allows the user to access four computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor, and also share among the computers peripherals such as external hard drives, printers and scanners. The GCS1764s independent (asynchronous) switching feature allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. The user can switch from one computer to another without interrupting print jobs, downloads or other functions being handled by connected peripherlas. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharers - such as printer servers, modem splitters, etc. The GCS1764 further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. DVI supports both digital input (flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes) and analog video input (traditional monitors and TVs).

What Customers Say About IOGear 4-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Cables GCS1764:

Great image quality with my Dell 24 Ultrasharp Monitor. This is my second KVM from IOGEAR. Excellent product. I'm using a PowerMac G5, Mac Mini Intel and a custom built Windows 7 system. The first was VGA only. I've upgraded and now all my systems have DVI video. No problems at all, just works. Sharing my Bose desktop speakers as well and that works flawlessly to.

I've got a fairly standard setup - nVidia video card & NEC Multisync monitor on the main box, a Dell laptop & a homebuilt computer that's all off-the-shelf components. But the replacement had the same problem.Shipped that one back & got the analog version IOGear 4-Port MiniView Symphony Multi-function KVM Switch with Cables GCS1774 - which works fan-darn-tastic. (nVidia *video*card* - not the mobo, which is what most reviewers here are talking about when they talk about compatibility probs w/ nVidia)I got the DVI version of the box thinking that I'd have less signal degradation if the digital-to-analog conversion was downstream of the switchbox.Problem is that with this puppy, the monitor stayed blank no matter which computer was selected. Spent some time with IOGear's tech support & they thought that the box was bad, suggested I send it back & I did so. So, this could be a perfectly good box for those with full-on DVI setups, I dunno. But the package says it's compatible with analog monitors & I wanted to keep other folks from wasting the same amount of time I did.

But what prompted me to write this review is, after moving my office I mistakenly plugged in the wrong power adapter which blew its internal logic. I use my IOGear KVM daily in my home business to link Mac, Vista and WinXP boxes. The product is easy to use and well designed. Because it was still under warranty, the company said I could ship it back for a replacement, which I did, and am happily KVM switching as before. I didn't expect that -- I feel like it was well worth the price.

One would assume that they did something to fix the device, but it was still non-functional.So we do a second RMA -- wait another ridiculous amount of time to get a replacement device. I was using this to connect a Windows PC, Linux PC, and an Apple Mac mini to one keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor. It always ran hot to the touch. This was obviously a re-worked device WHICH ALSO DID NOT WORK.Not only does their customer service SUCK the obviously have NO QUALITITY CONTROL at IO Gear.Every time I call Technical support on this I'm on hold for 30 minutes only to reach someone who is far from having any technical knowledge of the device. After one year the thing is dead; way too short of a life span for such an expensive KVM.IOGear online tech support sucks. I waited 30 minutes to chat with a live agent only to be told to submit a trouble ticket -- worthless and unhelpful. The saga continues.IO Gear had my device for nearly two weeks only to return it with no information. I would have expected at least some scripted "have you tried this" trouble shooting, but they just schedule another RMA. The fact that they immediately go to a RMA tells me they know these devices are historically faulty.I'm making it my personal goal to inform everyone I can to stay away from IO Gear hardware.

It has worked flawlessly for me for over an year now. After trying several cheaper KVM switches I finally did what I should have done from the beginning and bought this one. It is excellent - very easy to use and reliable. I use it in its full capability - to switch analog sound, DVI, and a couple of USB devices between four computers.Occasionally when one of the machines is booting, I get a repeated character on the keyboard (which was described in another review), but it isn't a problem (and my job consists of using a keyboard all the time). It lasts for less than a second and only happens during boot (and not every boot by far).
